Three million passengers a year pass through the gates at Liverpool John Lennon International Airport. Located seven miles from the centre of Liverpool, the busy, single-terminal airport manages international and domestic flights operated by nine airlines and it serves numerous cities in northwest England. Carriers such as Aer Lingus, easyJet, Euromanx and Ryanair operate from Liverpool John Lennon as well as VLM and Wizz Air. Check-in counters are located in the middle of the main concourse and the Departures area is situated on the first floor.
Although the airport does not have a post office or a bank, money changing and other financial services are available at the airport’s five Travelex counters. The terminal offers Wi-Fi internet connections throughout. Other facilities include a prayer room and a passenger room for administering medicine. There is also a travel agent. Disabled amenities include reserved parking spaces, modified telephones and toilets, an ambulift and an induction loop system.
Dining options are plentiful on the third floor, from fast-food restaurants and cafés to a food court. Coffee and drinks are on offer at Starbucks, while Wetherspoon's Argosy Bar offers customers alcoholic drinks. Beyond passport control, food and libations are available from the Food Fayre Restaurant and The Daytripper Bar. Several well-known stores such as Boots, Dorothy Perkins and Spar offer shopping options as do an electronics store and a local souvenir shop. Duty-free shopping is available in Departures. Two lounges cater to business travellers and include conference facilities and office-style seating and services.
Transport and parking at Liverpool John Lennon International Airport
No trains service Liverpool John Lennon directly, but shuttle buses link the airport with Garston and Hunts Cross train stations. The primary means of transport between the airport and the city centre is by Arriva bus, with Joblink and Supertravel buses offering connections to points farther afield. In the city centre, buses run to the airport twice an hour from Lime Street Station, with a journey time of 45 minutes. Outside the Arrivals Hall, registered taxis are available for hire to Liverpool and beyond, as are some hotel shuttles.
The hourly Short-Term Car Park lies just opposite the Departures Concourse. Two car parks are available for long-term parking and are situated adjacent to the terminal building. All parking facilities are highly secure, with surveillance video and round-the-clock security patrols. Reserved parking spaces for disabled drivers are located next to the terminal building and these specially marked spaces are strategically placed for maximum convenience.
The staff at Liverpool John Lennon Airport have recently celebrated becoming runners–up in the category ‘Best Marketing Campaign 2005'. The airport hopes that this award will raise Liverpool Airport's profile to the general publc.
